The G Running Diary
It's the weekend again and there are still little piles of Badwater
items all over the place. A lot of it is in plastic boxes. We found
these perfect-sized Sterilite storage containers that we first
encountered at the FANS 24-hour run. Bob Metzger let us borrow a couple
for the run and we thought they were great. We spent over a month
searching for them, and when we finally found them, purchased about a
dozen. It is a great way to organize all the running supplies we have
accumulated: pills, powders, first aid, tape, maps, nighttime supplies,
batteries, flashlights--anything big enough to have its own category. Of
course, even in boxes, the stuff is still all over my living room. I
wonder if people have whole separate rooms devoted to running supplies?
Our foot care supplies are in tackle boxes. Don and I have one each now
because of Badwater (separate crews, separate foot care). But even with
all these boxes there are non-contained items scattered around the
house. I am looking at BlisterShield, a product I have yet to try that
is supposed to prevent blisters by reducing friction. I think I will try
it tomorrow in the Skyline 50K. After the epic journey of Badwater it is
hard to imagine only running 31 miles. The nice part is not having to
worry about all the supplies and crews. We can just put on our shoes,
bring some water bottles and start off. The aid stations are well
stocked--it was this race where someone said, "you just run from picnic
to picnic," which was the surprise of trail 50Ks after running road
marathons. In road marathons you only get water and Gatorade, and an
occasional GU if you are lucky. That doesn't sound very appealing to me
right now.
