The G Running Diary
You would think an ultrarunner wouldn't have any weight problems, right? Wrong. That's what I was thinking about during my little
run yesterday. I went out and around on the neighborhood streets. Some drivers prefer not to give you any space, even when there is
no sidewalk that you should be on. Not that I run on sidewalks. Concrete is the hardest surface. Asphalt is a little softer. Asphalt
is worse when there is a crown in the road though. Then I might get over on the sidewalk. The drivers also don't respect the 25 MPH
speed limit throughout the neighborhoods. I tried to find the quieter streets. The route took me through downtown Los Altos. By then
I was actually running at a real pace, as opposed to the 15 minute miles or whatever I was doing during the warm-up. I feel very
slow. I am too well-trained for running 100 milers, I think. I run a good pace for running all day and all night. I wonder if a pace
this slow even burns calories.
So then at the end of the run I tried to go faster down the street that I had timed before at about six minutes. I thought I was
really going fast. But it turned out to be six minutes again.
