The G Running Diary
Who would have thought moving could seem like so much exercise? I ached
more than after a good run. I hope that means it is a good workout, and
not just that I've tweaked my back or something. With all this going on,
I am not thinking about running. It's funny though, I've been wearing
running clothes all week. They are the best for moving in. I just wish I
were moving faster.
Motivation to run seems to be a problem at this time of year. I'm not
sure if it's because there is other stuff going on or just that the
weather is colder and less appealing. Maybe there is a winter
hibernation factor. Even knowing that I have events coming up doesn't
get me out the door. So, I will run a 50K tomorrow and that will be my
exercise. It's not that I'm spending all my time on Christmas either. I
don't know what it is. The same thing happened last year. During the
year, you have to take some time off, so I guess if you don't schedule
it, it just sort of happens. The rule for resting is that you should
take a day or two days off during the week, and a week off (or easy)
during a month (or two months) and a month off during a year, and every
once in a while, a year off. "Off" doesn't mean that you are completely
inactive, it just means that training and running aren't your main focus
at that time. So resting shouldn't make you feel guilty because it is a
necessary part of the big picture. I have had three long rest periods
that were injury induced. Through part of those periods, I still did
whatever other training I could, because I was so desperate to run
again. But then I would stop and just take advantage of the rest. This
all doesn't make me feel any less guilty about not running this week.
But I still don't feel like getting out there.
